Corporate IT Manager

About the role
THE LUMBER MANUFACTORY (TLM) IS BUILDING THE FUTURE OF SUSTAINABLE LUMBER WITH NEXT-GENERATION SAWMILL TECHNOLOGY. WE DESIGN AND OPERATE STATE-OF-THE-ART MODULAR SAWMILLS THAT PRODUCE HIGH-GRADE DIMENSIONAL WOOD PRODUCTS WITH GREATER EFFICIENCY AND LESS WASTE. BACKED BY LEADING INVESTORS INCLUDING CANTOS, SLOW VENTURES, BANTER CAPITAL, HUMBA VENTURES, AND RAVELIN CAPITAL. The Lumber Manufactory is seeking a Corporate IT Manager to own corporate IT end to end for a distributed team spread across Seattle, Philadelphia, and Mississippi. You'll build the identity, device, security, and vendor systems the company runs on, working closely with our technology function and site leaders. This is a chance to define how IT works at TLM from the ground up, at a fast-growing, venture-backed company — ideally for someone who has done this before at another startup or small company and knows what good looks like without a template. You'll operate with a high degree of independence from day one, as the most experienced IT voice on a small team, and help build out the team under you as we scale. This role is based in the Philadelphia area and requires regular on-site presence, with periodic travel to TLM's Seattle office and Mississippi mill site. In This Role, You Will - Own corporate IT end to end — identity and access management, account lifecycle (onboarding through offboarding), and permissions across our business systems - Own the device fleet for our distributed team: procurement, MDM-based provisioning, shipping logistics, tracking, patching, and retirement - Administer and rationalize our SaaS stack — licensing, access reviews, renewals, and spend - Own endpoint security and security hygiene — endpoint protection, patch posture, MFA/SSO coverage, and compliance support - Select and manage IT vendors and service providers, including office networking and connectivity - Build the documentation, self-service resources, and workflow automations that let a growing team mostly help itself - Define escalation paths and the working boundary with the production systems team, so every request has one obvious front door - Provide hands-on support during site visits, including new-hire setup and office networking at TLM's Seattle office and Mississippi mill - Serve as the senior technical resource for the IT function, providing guidance and technical judgment for our existing junior IT support as needed - Plan IT budget and headcount as the company grows, including hiring and managing junior IT support roles - Adapt to changing priorities and support team and operational needs as they evolve. Who You Are - You've built or run corporate IT at a startup or small company before — you know what good looks like and can get there without a template - Comfortable being the single owner of your domain in a company that is still defining its structure, and operate independently in ambiguity - You write things down — documentation, runbooks, and decisions others can follow — and communicate clearly with non-technical colleagues - Comfortable running IT for a distributed team across multiple sites and time zones — steady async support day to day, with hands-on presence during site visits Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience - 5+ years in IT administration or IT operations, including 2+ years owning corporate IT (or as the senior/sole IT admin) at a startup or small company - Hands-on depth with an identity platform (Google Workspace, Okta, or Microsoft Entra) and an MDM (Kandji, Jamf, or Intune) - Working knowledge of endpoint protection, access management, and security best practices - Experience selecting and managing IT vendors and negotiating renewals - Experience troubleshooting office networking (Wi-Fi, VLANs, firewalls) and coordinating with ISPs or managed network vendors - Experience with workflow automation (Slack Workflows, Zapier, or script
